Heath Jones
Dr. Heath Jones, Associate Professor of Music teaches applied saxophone, music education, music technology, jazz improvisation, world music, and directs the Jazz Ensemble at Oklahoma Christian University. Heath holds degrees from Oklahoma Christian University, Baylor University, and the University of Oklahoma. He is an  active professional performer in the Oklahoma City area, and serves as Vice-President for the Oklahoma Jazz Educators. In 2008 Heath was named the University Jazz Educator of the year by the OKJE. Heath has performed with The Temptations, The Four Tops, Leslie Gore, Jim Neighbors, Natalie Cole, and other road show artists. Heath performs with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Lyric Theatre, and the Pollard Theatre. Heath is a Cannonball Saxophone Artist and has given master classes, lectures, and recitals in China, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. In 2009 Heath presented a lecture, on jazz improvisation pedagogy using transcriptions of Dexter Gordon, at the World Saxophone Congress in Bangkok, Thailand. Heath works in collaboration with Larsen Music Store to promote music education in the Oklahoma City Area through master classes and the distribution of educational material. Heath has 2 albums, “Lookin’ Back” & “Live & Learn” that includes performances by Roy Hargrove, Keith Anderson, Lee Rucker, Jerry Tachoir, Paul West, James Greeson, Jeremy Thomas, Willie Peterson, and Mitch Bell. Heath has studied with: Gail Levinsky, Tom Dryer-Beers, James Stoltie, Michael Jacobson, Jack Sission, Jim Riggs, and Gail Hall.
